ANA Coin Press – Collecting Friends: Coins Are Where You Find Them
Dennis: Steve, do you ever find yourself thinking you see coins (or actually randomly see them) in unexpected, non-numismatic places? My Tiny Boss Lady™ is seven years old now, and for fall break last year we undertook a magical and exhausting American rite of passage: the first trip to Disney World. I wasn't actively searching for numismatic material – how can you, with so many dwarfs and mice in tuxedoes running around? – but throughout each day coins, paper scrip, and exonumia seemed to find me.
Steve: Dennis! I'm much more a fan of finding treasures of the art and architectural sort while on vacation: like discovering old banks – or buildings that used to be banks – with fanciful coin designs as decoration.

Sticking to a Budget
From the Reading Room
In August 2019, I spent two and a half days at the World's Fair of Money® (WFM) in Rosemont, Illinois, and had a terrific time. My experience was filled with enjoyable conversations, informative seminars, and interesting exhibits. And, of course, I bought some things. In fact, I found so many appealing items that I couldn't pass up because I may not see them again. Due to this, I depleted most of my numismatic budget for the year. The stretch was worthwhile, but now I must practice numismatic austerity – that is, being more strict with my collecting budget to maximize hobby enjoyment. Fortunately, our hobby offers numerous opportunities for low-cost fun. Here are some of my favorites.
The ANA is accepting scholarship applicationsfor its 2024 Summer Seminar, the hobby's premier educational event. Recipients will have the opportunity to attend one of two weeklong sessions, to be held June 16-19 and June 23-26 on the Colorado College campus adjacent to ANA headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colorado. All members are eligible.
Take a look at the courses, mini-seminars, tours, events and more that are being offered this year in the course catalog.
YNs can apply for financial aid through the ANA Young Numismatist Scholarship Programs. Applicants must be full-time students, age 13 to 17. Full scholarships include room and board for one week, tuition, and airfare, while partial scholarships cover tuition only. Recipients will be selected based on need and merit.
Scholarship applications are available online and must be postmarked no later than February 29, 2024. For additional information, contact the ANA Seminars Department at (719) 482-9848 or email seminars@money.org.

"Panic of 1893" Presented by Bob Bair
This course is an historic analysis of arguably the worst and most widespread depression ever experienced by American citizens, and its limited coin production which created numerous "keys" for today's U.S. coin collector.
February 22
"Roosevelt Dime" Presented by Jenny Penny Borrasso
Did you know that Roosevelt was a staunch supporter of the March of Dimes? Did you know that the March of Dimes raised money to find a cure for polio, and that President Roosevelt was diagnosed with polio at 39 years of age? If not, or you'd like to learn more about the historical beginnings and design of the Roosevelt Dime, then tune in! There's more than meets the eye with this seemingly plain current circulating coin.

The YN Perspective from the January 2024 Numismatist by Kenny Sammut
Joining coin clubs offers collectors a unique avenue for expanding their knowledge and networks. Being part of a numismatic community such as the ANA grants access to exclusive events and educational seminars. These experiences provide members with valuable information and offer camaraderie and shared passion. Here are six national clubs I recommend checking out.
Join the monthly ANA Money Museum Auction on eBay, February 15-22.
Collectors will have a week to review the items – all of which are duplicate, mostly low-value specimens already represented in the Money Museum collection. (No permanent items from the collection are being sold.)
ANA members receive a 20% discount on their winning bids! All proceeds will be used to support the Museum's educational mission.
Money Museum auctions take place every third Thursday of the month. YN Dollars are NOT allowed to be used to purchase these deaccessioned items – YN Dollars can only be used to "purchase" items in the official ANA YN Auctions held each month.
YN Dollars are designed to reward Young Numismatists for participation in activities related to the world of numismatics. YNs are able to save and spend this physical internal scrip of the ANA's Education Department to earn prizes in the Education Department's Monthly and Annual YN Auctions.
As a benefit of CONECA membership, YNs will receive the educational journal The Errorscope, which is mailed bi-monthly. CONECA also offers members a lending library, plus examination, listing and attribution services.
To redeem your free membership, email yn@conecaonline.org. Be sure to include your name, email address, ANA membership number, and mention the code CONECAYN#16 in the email body or subject line.
