YNs may bid on one or all items with YN Dollars. Bids must be placed no later than July 15.
In case of a tie, the first person to submit the winning bid will receive the lot.
The monthly YN auction will be moved and modified to the ANA eLearning Academy under "YN Programs" starting in September.Moving the YN auction to the eLearning Academy provides a few advantages:
If you haven't registered yet for the eLearning Academy, this is the perfect opportunity to do so and have access to a plethora of educational resources we provide.
At the end of every day, current winning anonymous bids will be displayed as a reference to other bidders.
Final winning bids will be announced on the eLearning Academy on the 16th of each month, or the following Monday (if the 16th is on the weekend) of each month.
Collecting Friends: Collecting Coins with Cub Scouts
In a new blog installment from Dennis Tucker and Steve Roach, the pair discuss working with Cub Scouts to discuss and share about coins, and how they like to approach teaching kids.
Dennis: A while back a friend asked if I would give a presentation on coin collecting for his Cub Scout den. I figured it would be a cakewalk. His children and my daughter are about the same age, and I've talked to seven- and eight-year-olds about coins before. On top of that, I was a kid once—and a Scout, and a collector.
I talked to the scouts about the designs of coins, and what they mean—the American eagle, portraits of presidents, etc. I told them about the ancient Greeks, and how they used symbols on coins to show what was important to them. We did a creative exercise where the Scouts drew a coin design of their own. They really liked that.

Register for the Annual Live YN Auction
The 10th Annual Live Young Numismatist Auction is scheduled to take place Saturday, October 12.
One of the best benefits of being an ANA YN is the opportunity to participate in the annual live YN Auction each year. It's a wonderful learning experience that allows you to feel the excitement and yes, the pressure you'd experience bidding on items with real money (only YN Dollars are accepted in the YN Auction). Plus, you'll have the opportunity to win some real treasures! The lots consist of U.S. and world coins and currency, numismatic literature and supplies, as well as other "oddball" related items.
One hundred lots will be offered, plus ten "grab bags" at the end of the auction to provide those that did not win anything a way to obtain something fun. Bidding generally starts low but doesn't stay there for long. Many lots go for $50-$100, but some fetch hundreds if not thousands of dollars. It is important for all participants to do their due diligence and research the lots they are interested in to prepare for the auction.
Keep your eye on the ANA eLearning Academy "YN Programs" for the 2024 Auction Catalog, which will be posted soon. And keep earning those YN Dollars so you'll have more funds to bid on your favorite lots!
When: Saturday, October 12, 10 a.m. (MT)
Where: Online! YNs must have a Google account to participate in the auction
To Register: Email sroach@money.org your name, address, phone number and screen name from your Google account. Those who register will receive a confirmation email.
To ensure that auction dollars are received prior to the event, YNs are encouraged to submit all YN dollar requests no later than Friday, September 27.
YN Dollars are the only form of payment accepted for auction items. Only current ANA members in grades K-12 may participate.
Since 2018, I have found more than $10,000 in collectable coins through coin-roll hunting. Coin-roll hunting is the hobby of sorting through boxes of coins looking for valuable pieces. Whether this pursuit is profitable is hotly debated. Most adults dismiss the hunt as not worth their time. But when I started at age 12, it was one of the few ways I could make my own money.
Young Numismatists who are also ANA members have the opportunity to volunteer to be a page at the World's Fair of Money in Chicago, Aug. 6-10. Pages must be between the ages of 13 and 22. It's a great opportunity to experience a coin show first hand.
Collect tips while attending the biggest coin show of the summer, network with dealers and professional numismatists, and earn YN Dollars to use in the monthly YN Auction.
NumismaTalks, an ANA webinar series, will be presented by a rotating array of top industry experts. Part of the ANA eLearning Academy, NumismaTalks consist of hour-long presentations, 12-1pm MT, on the second and fourth Thursday of the month. All NumismaTalks are recorded and will be available to members only on our eLearning Academy platform.

"Paper Money Oddities" Presented by Joseph E. Boling
This presentation covers a variety of errors and environmental issues that can affect paper money, such as ink starvation errors, offset errors, other printing defects associated with the several steps in creating US notes, and color changelings.

"Israel Commemorative Coins by Series" Presented by Simcha Kuritzky
Israel has issued over 600 commemorative coin types, so collecting them can seem daunting. Breaking them down by series makes it easier to collect, either by specializing in certain series or creating a type set across all series. However, few catalogs organize the coins this way.
The ANA wants to help you celebrate your special day. During your birth month, please log on to the ANA eLearning Academy to request your special coin and 20 YN Dollars and provide your full mailing address. Remember, YN Dollars can be used in monthly and annual auctions.
If you haven't registered for the Academy yet, it's easy! You will need an eLearning Academy login to participate in YN programming moving forward.
It is required that you make the request during your birth month. Otherwise, you have to wait until next year to receive goodies.
The YN Perspective from the July 2024 Numismatist by CJ Buchanan
If you peruse older hobby magazines and newspapers, you'll find many examples of ads from a bygone era. Coins that would be considered mundane by today's standards were selling for absurd prices. Rolls of 1960 small-date Lincoln cents, for example, were going for hundreds in the '60s. Like any hobby, coin collecting has been, and still is, susceptible to fads—the rapid pace of collecting in the modern age can whip up excitement seemingly overnight. Luckily, learning from the past can help prevent costly mistakes.
Join the monthly ANA Money Museum Auction on eBay, July 18-25.
Collectors will have a week to review the items – all of which are duplicate, mostly low-value specimens already represented in the Money Museum collection. (No permanent items from the collection are being sold.)
ANA members receive a 20% discount on their winnings bids! All proceeds will be used to support the Museum's educational mission.
Money Museum auctions take place every third Thursday of the month. YN Dollars are NOT allowed to be used to purchase these deaccessioned items – YN Dollars can only be used to "purchase" items in the official ANA YN Auctions held each month.
YN Dollars are designed to reward Young Numismatists for participation in activities related to the world of numismatics. YNs are able to save and spend this physical internal scrip of the ANA's Education Department to earn prizes in the Education Department's Monthly and Annual YN Auctions.
