Money Museum Masterpiece Series: The Morgan Dollar
Morgan silver dollars are a popular choice among collectors, and are very well-known within the numismatic community. However, what some people may not know is that the Morgan dollar features a woman that the designer, George T. Morgan, knew. Who is the woman on the coin?
This is the third video in the Money Museum Masterpiece Series, which features numismatic items from the ANA's Money Museum by explaining its history and significance.
ANA Coin Press – "Holiday Double Feature: The Christmas Truce & St. Nicholas Bank Notes
As Christmas 1914 approached, it was becoming clear to many soldiers that the war was not going to end soon. Front line troops were increasingly disillusioned with the horror and pointlessness of the fighting and were homesick – they had been promised a short war.
As busy as he is during the holiday season, how did Santa Claus ever find time to pose for a series of bank notes in 19th century America?
This Month in The Numismatist – "In Living Color: Banque de France Billets"
As portrayed in Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM)'s lavish 1938 film Marie Antoinette, guards stop the coach of the queen (played by Norma Shearer) and King Louis XVI (Robert Morley) when the couple attempts to flee Paris during the French Revolution. The guards examine a French coin and determine the portrait of King Louis it bears matches the face of the man in the coach, and the rest is history. Another source states that a black-and-white uniface 50 livres royal assignat bank note featuring his effigy was used to identify him.

"George Ohr's Provocative Clay Tokens" in This Week's E-Sylum
The pottery of George Ohr is captivating. Existing within his famed oeuvre are lesser studied objects often termed "trinkets." Among these are a small collection of six clay tokens bearing crude and highly sexualized messages made of letters, numbers, and images. Despite their provocative nature and famous maker they remain almost completely unstudied.
